Trestleboard           ASHLER LODGE          June 2014

Greetings from the East,

As usual, our meeting was a hive of activity. We started with the usual and were then treated to W.B. Ron Swasey’s Memorial Day presentation followed by the Brethren paying their respects to our nation’s veterans that have given so much for all of us. I have seen this ceremony many times since my first entrance into a Masonic Lodge and it still moves me deeply. It is difficult to express the gratitude we all owe our men and women in uniform, past and present.

We continue to grow as a lodge and another petition for the degrees was made and an investigation committee assigned. We hope to be balloting on a new initiate next month.

W.B. Mike Olson gave an in-depth accounting of lodge finances and where we stand with regard to budget nearly halfway through the year. With that information, W.B. Darin Velin updated us on our mentoring program with Lynnwood H.S. and what they may need to get that off the ground. The lodge approved an expenditure of $2,500 (if necessary) to supply L.H.S. with the necessary seed money to get the program started. Another great example of our efforts at community outreach. Many thanks to W.B. Velin for the time and effort he has expended for this worthwhile endeavor.

Our Youth Committee reports brought a passionate plea from W.B. Jerry Parton of Shoreline Lodge regarding “our” T.H. Little DeMolay chapter and whether or not we would be willing to co-sponsor with Robert Burns Lodge. W.B. Jerry was asking for any Masons with time to assist the boys in rejuvenating their chapter by donating their time.

S.W. Dan Southerland and I attended the open air F.C. degree at the Roche Harbor mausoleum and we were favorably impressed with the venue and would encourage all F.C.’s and M.M.’s to attend. While we, of course, would encourage you all to attend the degree, you should at least consider coming up for the fellowship, the salmon and the pork. Delicious!

While we had many guests in attendance, I was personally surprised that a brother from CA came to visit us and, as he was giving us a brief history of his Masonic journey, I found that he was the secretary at my father’s lodge in Rosamond, CA. My father succeeded Brother Doug Tompkins. It just goes to show you, brothers are everywhere, in the light as well as in the dark.

Speaking of brothers, our very own Brother Jeff Glaze was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on the 29th of May so if you see Brother Jeff, please do congratulate him.

Reminders: The Ashler Picnic is coming up on July 19th and we are inviting all classic cars to attend so if you know anyone that would like to show off their ride, please encourage them. Ashler will pick up the one day Discover Pass for all non-Masons.

We also would encourage you all to begin thinking about the Bothell Independence DayParade and if you can help or if you can march alongside the rest of your brothers.

That is all from the East for this month and I want to wish you all a great month and a productive June meeting as I will be in Ohio at my father’s lodge celebrating with his spirit.

Greetings from the West,

Well it sure has been a busy month at Ashler as always. Great wages to pay as I need to start out with all our Brothers who helped raise Brother Jeff Glaze to Master Mason. It was a great evening to be a Mason. To all of our Brothers who continually stand up to give our time and efforts to make our community better. As we start our relationship with Lynnwood High School I look forward to seeing how we are able to help so many students. I was able to attend the Jobs Daughters meeting this last month to present the donation we gave the three girls who worked so hard to be part of the Grand team. They very much appreciate our support and attendance.

I am looking forward to our June stated communication as we will have the privilege of having the DeMolay with us for dinner and then a great presentation by Nole Powell of the Ceremony of Light. Nole came in first place for this ceremony at the DeMolay Conclave. Be sure to come see this great presentation. This also gives us all a great chance to meet this great group of young men.

We also have Grand Lodge Communication this month, All Master Masons are encouraged to attend and join in the events. This is a great way to meet new Brothers and see how things are done at this level. With that said, I would like to put out special wages to our own VW Richard Beers. As he concludes his tenure as our District 2 Deputy we are proud to know he served us very well through some trying times throughout the district. He is leaving our District in great shape to his successor whom is the same man who followed him up the line in Ashler, WB Chris Haynes. Hmmm I see a pattern emerging. Great stuff!

We have so many great items coming up as summer comes upon us. From music in the park to the parades we will be in there are so many ways to help and show our Masonic Pride. Come out and join your Brothers in the fun and fellowship as it always proves to be a great time. And remember we have three great youth groups that love our attendance, it’s surely guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Greetings from the South,

I would like to pay wages to the Brethren for stepping up and assisting me with the degree team for the raising of Br. Jeff Glaze. It was a great degree and went off without any hitches.

I also would like to thank all of the Brethren who came out and helped with Bothell Street Clean Up. We had six brothers help out and it went quickly yet again. And our consecutive times without rain will continue!

We do have a ton of events in the upcoming months. We will be participating in the Bothell 4th of July parade yet again! We will be having our Masonic Picnic on July 19th at St. Edward State Park. And every Friday evening in the months of July and August we will be at Bothell Music in the Park!

Jobie Update from Melody Dorning

The daughters are working hard to get this term off to a good start.

We had our line officer retreat where they planned all the activities and fund raisers they are going to do for the term. This month they will be spending most of their time planning and getting ready for Grand Session at the end of the month. They are competing in Bethel ritual competition. This is where they perform the ritual work of a regular meeting. Last year they came in first place.

They are hoping to do it again!

We are having car washes every Saturday and Sunday until the beginning of August to help cover their Grand and Supreme session expenses. It is at the Arby's in Canyon Park from 10am to 3 pm. So if you need your car washed they would love to wash it for you. A few of the girls are competing in individual competitions they are excited and we hope they do well.

They are having a meeting on June 14th at 7 pm and also on June 24th at 7 pm we hope to see some of you there to give them a fabulous send off as we leave for Grand Session the day after our June 24th meeting. Thank you all for your wonderful support!
