Trestleboard           ASHLER LODGE          January 2015

Greetings from the East,

Happy New Year to all our Brothers and Families, I hope this finds you all well and happy.

It looks like we are starting this year in true Ashler form, as busy as ever. We started this term off with an EA degree and will be having two more real soon. I also see a third degree in the near future. I hope to see all of our Brothers at these degrees as to welcome our new Entered Apprentices into our great fraternity and also to see Brothers being raised, such a great time. Our January stated communication will start with our Annual Chili Cook-off with our awesome Jobs Daughters helping with the serving, and as we turn to labor we will have our Grand Master Sam Roberts visiting us.

I want to send a Huge Thank You to all the Brothers that were at our December Stated, as you all made the evening a great night. The budget is always an interesting time as we discuss the wants and concerns of our Lodge’s future. The Masonic Family Park is very happy we will be sponsoring a campsite as they continue to make this great Masonic Jewel a better place to spend time with our Masonic Family. The Ashler site will be #44, this site has never had a shelter or a fire ring so this is a huge addition for us to sponsor. I would highly recommend, if you have not been up there in a while, you head on up and see what they are doing. One of the ways you could do this is to either attend the outdoor third degree with us, or we will be holding an Ashler Family Campout coming June 26-28th. We have reserved the Rainbow Dream Camp area so there is lots of space for all to camp. Be on the lookout for details coming soon.

We are also holding a Sweetheart Appreciation Dinner on March 21st, at the Nile Country Club. We will be having our catered dinner in the Potentates Room. The menu will be out soon so we can pick what we would like to eat. This should prove to be a very nice evening and a nice way to show our Sweethearts we appreciate them for all they do as they support us on our Masonic Journey. Our JD Bob Guild has offered to head this up and I am sure he could use some help if anyone would like to join in on the planning.

As you all know we are always busy with all the quarry has to offer weather it is working with our youth, our community or beyond. We are always looking for people to get further involved so if you are looking to help please contact myself or one of the Wardens and we will hook you up. Even a little bit helps.

Our youth love seeing us at their meetings and outing so if you want to be given a huge shot of energy I would recommend you attend a meeting or two. Always an uplifting time. Our DeMolay at T.H. Little are in need of Brothers to help with growing this great group of young men. If you know of any young man that is looking to be better than let’s get them involved. So for all of you who have sons, grandsons, nephews, friend of sons, neighbor boys or even down the street boys, co-workers son’s, let’s get them involved. Just keep in mind, every young man we help become involved in DeMolay is one who becomes involved in our Lodge and may become a Mason. Also if any of us knows a way to grow our youth groups please step up.

I would like to end this by asking all Brothers to look well to your Brothers and remember, WE ARE our Brothers keeper. I enjoy visiting our brother at lodges and seing what they are doing. One of the things I see we all share is the problem of some of our Brothers failling out of contact with us for whearever the reason. To many times do we get the news that a Brother has needs we can help with or left us for the Celestial Lodge and we find out later. If you know of anyone who needs a pull on our cable tow please give us a call. WB's Gary and Roger will be working to get in contact with all of our Brothers we have not heard from in a while so if you can help please do.

Greetings from the West,

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and a great start to the new year!

I want to pay wages to all the Brethren for helping out with degree work and our stated meeting in December. I know the holidays can be busy, joyous, and stressful. It was great to see Brothers stepping up and helping out!

It looks to be another busy year for Ashler. I have already planned on some visiting in January and I encourage all of the Brethren to go out. One thing is missing from Ashler and that is Solomon’s Pass that was in the northeast corner of the Lodge above the piano. I would love to see that back at Ashler. We do have a few more Ashler Street clean ups and a few work parties planned. So if you have a specific skill set, like painting or removing Christmas lights, please let me know. We don’t want a brother to do something he isn’t comfortable with.

In keeping up with the Worshipful Master and his vision for Sunshine, it never hurts to reach out and look out for a brother who we have not heard from or just cannot make it to Lodge. Please let me know if you know of a brother who needs a phone call or letter. I will spearhead that and reach out.

A small note about Music in the Park. As many of you have heard, King County has proposed to raise the cost of the permits we need from $55 to $210! We need three $55 permits to cover the 7 Fridays we operate in July and August. If the proposed fees go into place, Music in the Park will not be the same. You can call and email King County about the proposed fee hikes for their temporary food permits. See me for details or visit the Facebook page for more details.

Greetings from the South,

Hi Brothers I have been pretty busy this last month, it was installation time not only for our Lodge's but also for Jobs Daughters, combined I went to nine installations. It has been fun traveling around and seeing what other Brothers do and just seeing other lodges with Jobs Daughters. For those of you that don't know I am Grand Inner Guard for Jobs Daughters this year and will be working my way up their Grand line at the same time I will be going up our line. I would like to encourage every Brother to get involved with the youth, not only are the young men from Demolay (such as myself) possible future Masons but many of our Brothers have come to us through Jobies and Rainbow. If we as Masons want to keep our order healthy then we need to be out there inspiring others to want to belong. I was inspired by Brothers of Ashler Lodge to get back into the craft through my work and Jobs Daughters, you never know who or when you might inspire a future Mason. In closing Happy new year to all and let's make 2015 a great year for our lodge, our craft, and each other.
