Trestleboard ASHLER LODGE August 2013 Greetings from the East, I hope you are all having a very happy summer. We had our first summer Stated meeting, and I think it went very well. The Wardens will pay wages to specific Brothers, but I would like to thank all of you for coming out and joining us. I am looking forward to the August meeting. In case you missed it we will be marching in the Woodinville parade this year. This will be the first time for us at this event. We will march as a Masonic Family with wives children and members of the youth groups going. Paula and I will even be bringing our dogs. Dress is fun and casual. Parade will be taking place August 10, and Ashler Lodge is registered! We will be walking from the corner of Woodinville-Snohomish Road and NE Mill Place to 132nd Street. The parade goes from 11-noon, and participants will help to clean up afterwards. Everyone interested is asked to show up by 10:30 at the corner of Woodinville-Snohomish Road and NE Mill Place. After the parade let’s head off to celebrate the new marriage of our District Deputy, VWB Richard Beers and his Lady, Cassandra Beers at the Shoreline Masonic Center. This will at 1 PM. Paula and I will be going and can take three parade marchers with us. Music in the Park is going very well. Brother Kevin Haagen is doing a fine job of running things, and our youth groups have been helping out. Please join us Fridays in July and August at 6:30 for Music in the Park. Remember we will be having a CHIPs event at the August 2nd Music in the park. On Saturday September 8th we will be having out second annual open house. Last year we had a low turnout, but that was because we did not get the word out. I am looking for volunteers to help me spread the word about our open house. I have also been pondering the idea of opening the Lodge to other volunteer groups in the area. As you may know the city of Bothell has cancelled Riverfest this year, and one of the big parts of the event was the Hobby and Volunteer Expo. I have the names of the groups who came last year and was thinking we could invite them to join us. This is on my August agenda, so if you feel strongly one way or another please come to our August Stated meeting. We had the best July meeting in the history of the lodge :-). We had over 25 brothers there including former District Deputy VW Warren Schoben. Now, onto the wages. As always, to all the brothers that took the time out of their schedules to come and spend time at the lodge. To all the friends, family and Rainbow Girls who came to our picnic. Huge thank you to bros. Dan Southerland, WM Gary McPherson, and especially Jared McLaughlin (for his excellent pulled pork) for pulling together the annual picnic. The efforts here are truly amazing and benefit us all so if you see these brothers please give them an extra thank you. Fraternally, Roger Kaltenbach Senior Warden roger@thekaltenbach.com Greetings from the South, What a great time to be a Mason this is. We had our first July Stated meeting, what a great time. It’s so nice to see all our brothers at a summer stated. The air conditioning sure makes everything better in the lodge. I would like to pay wages to Brother Jared for making a great summer all American picnic style dinner of fried chicken and potato salad, great stuff as always coming out of his kitchen. We had our annual picnic this month. For all who were not able to make it, you were missed. We had an awesome day of Fun, Food and Fellowship. It’s always nice to see our Masonic family away from the lodge in such a great place as St. Edward Park. We had so many family members come with our Brothers not to mention our great Rainbow Girls. They do know how to brighten up a park. Thanks to all who helped with the planning and getting all together. A great time had by all. We have so many things we do all year and summer is definitely no exception. We have music in the park that’s in full swing. So if you have not been able to come on out Fridays and join us. If you can’t stay to help with the booth we still would love to see our brothers for some great fellowship. So I saved the best for last. Our dinner for the August Stated Communication will be a pot luck affair. Now not just any pot luck but what we are hoping is the first Annual Spam Cook Off! So get your best Spam recipes out and cook them up for all to share in this Delectable meat competition. Mmmmm cannot wait! Now if you are one who doesn’t care for the delicacy then you are welcome to bring any dish you like. All dishes are welcome as you all know here at Ashler we do love to eat!
