Trestleboard ASHLER LODGE April 2014
Greetings from the East,
I guess, one sure sign that we are growing is that we keep having to open on the EA degree because the lodge is full of not only MM’s but FC’s and EA’s. It is good to see. There has been quite a bit of activity on the degree work and proving up. We hope to have at least one posting lecture this coming meeting.
We have also been working on incorporating new community outreach programs. WB Darin Velin has taken the lead on a program to possibly partner with Lynnwood High School assisting their student body with life skills and other youth programs. Since we already assist LHS annually with their science fair, this seems like a natural fit.
For the first time in my year, I was thankful to not have a memorial service to perform. While it is a part of life to send our brothers to the Supreme Architect, I’d prefer to keep that to a minimum. Along those lines, just as we say goodbye to our brothers, we balloted on two new petitions and Mr. Ray Gries and Mr. Doron Cedrechi were voted to receive the degrees in our lodge. More on that later in this Trestleboard.
Brother Dan took the time to give us a recap of the Leadership Conference in Yakima the previous weekend (which I’m sure he will expound on) and WB Ron and VW Richard also commented on this. I’m sure a good time was had by all involved if Dan was there.
WB Jack Houston, WM at Sultan-Monroe, also sent us a collage of photos and letters expressing thanks for our support of the Sno-Isle Bikes-4-Books program. It is a wonderful program and Jack deserves a lot of credit for making it happen and keeping it going. You brothers of Ashler also deserve credit for your generous donations to the program.
Speaking of B4B, Maywood Hills Elem. (our first school) will be presenting this year’s winners with their bikes on April 8th early in the morning and Woodin Elem. will be doing the same on the 7th at 2:30 P.M., if any brothers can make it. It is a great show for the kids; they are super excited to receive these.
With the influx of brothers to the lodge, Brother Jim Greimes wanted to remind everyone of the “Education Night” that takes place before Temple Board on the first Thursday of the month. It is a great time for Fellowship as well as education, please try and make it if you are able.
Speaking of education and learning, congratulations must go out to our very own SW, Dan Southerland, for winning the District 2 Warden’s competition and competing in the Regional Competition as well where he finished an impressive second. Please congratulate Brother Dan on his accomplishment.
I am planning on having a special presentation for April’s meeting, given by our very own WB Vinnie Digiulio, that explores the rift between the Catholic Church and Freemasons. It should be an informative talk. Our very own Jobies will also be giving a performance.
I would also like to remind the brothers that the Roche Harbor Outdoor FC Degree is coming in May and I would certainly like to go and encourage others to go as well. Of course, one needs to be a FC

Greetings from the West,
Where do we start as so many great times are happening here at Ashler. First I would like to pay some wages. First to our great Rainbow Girls that came and served us our meal at our last stated. To WB Gary for the corned beef and cabbage meal, very well done as all in attendance can agree. Also to all the Brothers who came to help on the Saturday after our stated to lend a huge hand in the work party, we accomplished quite a bit and all is looking great. We do have two new EA initiations coming up on Thursday, April 10th, so we are looking forward to seeing all our brothers there. It looks like we may be having a FC degree in the near future, great to see our brothers come up.
As the WM stated, I did have the great opportunity to attend this year’s Leadership Conference (previously called Wardens Conference). I must say that I have attended the last three years and it gets better every year. Our Brother, WB Steve Martin, has been put in charge of the conference; and he, along with his team, is doing an outstanding job. Since it is now open to all brothers that are looking at the line, or just want to know more of the workings, I highly recommend going. They bring in top instructors and speakers. Our own WB Ron Swasey taught five classes that were well worth attending. Along with meeting brothers from all over the jurisdiction and Grand Lodge, it is a great time.
We are looking at visiting the next stated communication of Yancey C. Blaylock on April 8th. This will be their last stated in this building as they are moving to the Scottish Rite building in Shoreline. Let’s get enough brothers to bring home the traveling gavel as Genesis lodge will be delivering it the same night. We have so many great items coming up and I look forward to seeing you all as we attend them.

Dan Southerland

Greetings from the South,
I, too, would like to thank the Rainbow Girls for serving us our March dinner. It was a nice gesture that they took the time to sit at a table and get to know them on a one on one basis. April dinner is Brazilian Feijoada that is being put on by Worshipful Steward Gary McPherson. I hope to see as many of you as possible!
I would also like to mention that we do have two EA degrees coming up and it would be great to see as many brothers there as possible to help and support them. We always have parts open, even on the sidelines.
Fraternally,
Kevin Haagen
